The final closed examination marks the end of a doctoral student’s journey at Diponegoro University. The path to a doctoral degree is not easy, encompassing various stages of colloquiums, seminars, qualifications, and the rigorous process of writing scientific articles. On December 22, 2025, the Aquatic Resources Management Doctoral Study Program produced its 203rd doctorate, Wita Setioko, a student in the 2022 MSDP Research Program.
The final closed examination took place via hybrid mode in Building J, Room 307, and via Zoom meeting from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM WIB. The dissertation research presented was entitled “Sustainability Analysis of Stocks and Export Trade of Swimming Crab Resources (Portunus spp.) in WPP 712 Indonesia to the United States.” Based on the research, the fishing season (west-east), which refers to the abundance of swimming crab stocks, correlates with the increase in the total volume of Indonesian swimming crab exports to the United States. The sustainability of crab resources in six WPP 712 locations during 2019-2022 demonstrates a need for adaptive, ecosystem-based management. SPR values ranged from 15% to 42%, with an average of 26% still within the reference limit (SPR 20%), indicating room for conservation strengthening. The relatively stable catch productivity (4-5 kg/day) is in line with the CPUE range set by Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Decree No. 83 of 2022, although it varies across locations. These findings support the urgency of implementing ecosystem-based management strategies, such as the 5-Minute Catch-Return Movement (GTK5menit) initiated by APRI, which encourages the release of egg-bearing female crabs by fishermen as an effort to maintain productivity and regenerate crab stocks in the wild. Strategy 1 – Sustainable crab stock processing, Strategy 2 – Value-added product development, Strategy 3 – Market diversification, Strategy 4 – Improved infrastructure and partnerships, Strategy 5 – Utilization of technology for operational efficiency, Strategy 6 – Increased storage capacity and logistics management.
The Closed Examination was led by Prof. Agus Trianto, ST., M.Sc. Ph.D. (Dean of FPIK), as the Chairperson and Internal Examiner, accompanied by Dr. Aninditia Sabdaningsih, S.Si., M.Si. (Study Program Manager and Co-Promoter), as the Secretary of the Examination Session with the Examination Team Members consisting of; Prof. Dr. Ir. Yushinta Fujaya, M.Si (External Examiner); Dr. Ir. Bambang Argo Wibowo, M.Si (Internal Examiner); Prof. Dr. Ir. Suradi, M.S (Promoto); Prof. Dr. Dian Wijayanto, S.Pi., M.SE., M.M (Co-Promoter I). Based on the assessment results of the Closed Exam Examining Team, Wita Setioko, has been declared PASSED with several notes, making her the 203rd graduate of the Doctoral Program in Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University.
Congratulations and success on your new degree, Dr. Wita! Continue working in the development of science and making real contributions to the welfare of society, upholding the good name of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and your beloved alma mater, Diponegoro University.
