The final exam marks the end of a student’s journey toward a doctoral degree at Diponegoro University. The path to a doctorate is not easy, encompassing various seminars, research, and the rigorous process of writing scientific articles. The Doctoral Program in Aquatic Resources Management (MSDM) has produced its 206th doctorate, Dr. M. Fajar Purnama, who was registered as a Research Fellow in the DMSDP Study Program in 2023.
The final exam took place offline in Building J, Room 307, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM WIB. In his dissertation presentation, entitled “The Relationship between Organic Material Input and Nickel Metal on Community Structure and Secondary Productivity of Mangrove Gastropods Around the Pomalaa Nickel Mining Area, Southeast Sulawesi,” Professor Promovendus (Promovendus) presented the increased abundance of Terebralia sulcate due to its adaptability as a detritus feeder on muddy substrates rich in organic matter. The maximum effectiveness of mangrove ecosystem biomonitoring is achieved through the use of the “dwispiesies” indicator system. Habitat damage such as overburden waste input from nickel mining activities (sedimentation), land conversion, reclamation, mangrove logging, and changes in hydrodynamic patterns can significantly reduce the productivity and abundance of this species, primarily due to reduced foraging and sheltering areas. Biological parameters proven effective for evaluating the level of ecological disturbance in mangrove ecosystems include the total SIGNAL Score, Number of Sensitive Taxa, % Abundance of Herbivores (Algae Grazers), Number of Taxa, Taxa Composition, % Dominant Taxa, % Abundance of Detrivores, and Number of Facultative Taxa. Promovendus has completed his studies (S1) in the Fisheries Department, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Halu Oleo University (FPIK-UHO) in 2011 and continued his studies (2012) in the Masters Program in Coastal Resources Management (MSDP) at Diponegoro University, Indonesia-France Double Degree Program (DDIP-UNDIP) and completed in 2014. In 2023 (August) as a student in the Doctoral Program in Aquatic Resources Management (MSDP) at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University, then a year later, he studied for the doctoral program (ongoing) precisely in 2024 (Odd Year) also took professional studies in the Professional Engineering Program Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University (PSPPI-UNDIP) and graduated in the same year (November 2024) through the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) program. Since April 2015, Promovendus has been a permanent lecturer (ASN) in the Department of Aquatic Resources Management (MSP), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Halu Oleo University (FPIK-UHO). Promovendus is one of the fastest graduating students with a study period of 2.5 years and has successfully written 5 reputable international publications, 1 national publication indexed by SINTA 2, presented at an international seminar, and published 1 reference book.
The Final Examination was led by Prof. Agus Trianto, ST, M.Sc, Ph.D. (Dean of FPIK and examiner), as Chair of the Examination, accompanied by Dr. Aninditia Sabdaningsih, S.Si., M.Si. (Head of the Study Program), as Secretary of the Examination Session. The Examination Team members consisted of: Prof. Dr. Ir. Johannes Hutabarat, M.Sc (External Examiner), Rector of Unimar Amni Semarang; Dr. Ir. Pujiono Wahyu Purnomo, M.S (Examiner); Dr. Ir. Haeruddin, M.Si (Examiner); Ir. Max Rudolf Muskananfola, M.Sc., Ph.D (Co-Promoter); Prof. Dr. Ir. Slamet Budi Prayitno, M.Sc. (Promoter). Based on the assessment results from the Closed Exam Examiner Team on behalf of Dr. Muhammad Fajar Purnama was declared PASSED with the predicate CUMLAUDE and became the 206th graduate of the Aquatic Resources Management Doctoral Program, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University. Congratulations and success on your new title Dr. Fajar! Continue to work in the development of science and make real contributions to the welfare of society, maintaining the good name of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and your beloved alma mater, Universitas Diponegoro.
