Closed Dissertation Examination for the Double Degree Program between Diponegoro University and the Université de La Rochelle (ULR), France, by Mimie Saputri. She has been a doctoral student since 2021 and graduated with a doctorate after experiencing the ups and downs of her studies, a struggle that has been ongoing.
Promovenda’s dissertation title is “Utilization of Benthic Filter-Feeding Invertebrates as Water Quality Indicators in the Kendari Region (Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia).” Promovenda explained that this research focuses on monitoring trace metal and microplastic contamination in the marine ecosystem of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biomonitoring was conducted through the analysis of contaminant accumulation in benthic filter-feeding invertebrates, which are effective bioindicators due to their ecological role and sensitivity to pollutants. Four species were selected for trace metal analysis: Polycarpa aurata (P. aurata), Dendostrea folium (D. folium), Gafrarium pectinatum (G. pectinatum), and Isognomon ephippium (I. ephippium). For microplastic analysis, D. folium was the target species, given its filter-feeding nature and ecological relevance.
The examination was conducted openly by the Université de La Rochelle (ULR), France, with the Examining Team Members, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Zainuri, DEA (Promoter), Dr. Ir. Ita Widowati, DEA. (Co-Promoter), Dr. HDR. Hélène THOMAS, Dr. Denis FICHET, Dr. Gilles RADENAC, Dr. Ir. Haeruddin, M.Si (Examiner), Prof. Agus Trianto, ST, MSc, PhD (Examiner), Prof. Dr. Agung Dhamar Syakti, S.Pi., DEA. (External Examiner), Dr. Aninditia Sabdaningsih, S.Si., M.Si. (Examiner and Administrator). The assessment results from the Examination Team on behalf of Mimie Saputri were declared PASS and she became the 199th graduate of the Doctoral Program in Aquatic Resources Management, FPIK, Diponegoro University, with two Cumlaude honors.
Congratulations and best wishes on your new title, Dr. Mimie Saputri! Continue your work in the advancement of science, educating the next generation, and advancing the welfare of society. Always uphold the good name of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and your beloved alma mater, Diponegoro University and the Université de La Rochelle (ULR), France.
