The closed final exam marks the end of a student’s journey toward a doctoral degree at Diponegoro University. The path to a doctorate is not easy, encompassing various seminars, research, and the rigorous process of writing scientific articles. The 2022 class of the Aquatic Resources Management Doctoral Program has produced its 205th doctorate, Dr. Muh Tri Aji.

The closed final exam took place offline in Building J, Room 307, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM WIB. In his dissertation presentation, entitled “Ecobiology of Vampire Crabs (Geosesarma sp.) on the Slopes of the Menoreh Mountains, Kulon Progo,” Promovenda reviewed Geosesarma sp., a species found in the Menoreh Mountains found in riparian ecosystems, or along stream banks, with abundant leaf litter and organic detritus. This crab has a high potential to be a new species, as verified through a review process by crustacean reviewers in the Raffles Bulletin of Zoology journal. The reproductive period of the Geosesarma sp. vampire crab in the Menoreh Mountains is during the summer (February–April), with recruitment occurring during the transition from the hot to the rainy season (May–July). Vampire crab mortality due to fishing (F) is lower than natural mortality (M) and is reinforced by the low exploitation value. The fecundity of Geosesarma sp. in the Menoreh Mountains ranges from 20 to 60 eggs, with egg diameters ranging from 1.17 to 1.59 mm. Embryonic development occurs in six phases. Male vampire crabs are more dominant than females in size, with an average sex ratio of 1:0.5. The growth pattern of male vampire crabs is positively allometric, while that of females is isometric.

Promovendus has successfully published 3 articles in research in 2 international journals and 1 national journal Sinta 2. Status Publish Population Dynamics of Geosesarma sp: A New Species of Vampire Crab from the Menoreh Mountains of Java, Indonesia in the International Journal of Agriculture and Biosciences 2025. Feeding Habits and Ecological Conditions Of Vampire Crab (Geosesarma hagen) On The Slope Of The Menoreh Mountains, Kulon Progo in the BAWAL Journal 2024. Status Submitted Morphological and molecular identification of vampire crabs (Geosesarma sp.) in the Menoreh Mountains, Java, Indonesia: An analysis of a new Geosesarma species in Raffles Bulletin of Zoology.

The Closed Examination was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Diah Permata Wijayanti, M.Sc. (Vice Dean of FPIK and as Examiner), as the Chair of the Session, accompanied by Dr. Aninditia Sabdaningsih, S.Si., M.Si. (Head of Study Program), as the Secretary of the Examination Session and Co-Promoter with the Examination Team Members consisting of; Prof. Dr. Sugiyarto, M.Si (External Examiner) from Tidar University (Untidar Rector) expertise in Plant Ecology, Conservation Biology, and Ecology & Conservation Biology; Prof. Dr. Ir. Nur Taufiq Syamsudin Putra Jaya, M.App.Sc (Internal Examiner); Dr. Ir. Pujiono Wahyu Purnomo, MS. (Co – Promoter); Prof. Dr. Ir. Suradi, M.S. (Promoter). Based on the assessment results from the Closed Examination Examination Team on behalf of Dr. Tri Aji was declared PASSED and became the 205th graduate of the Doctoral Program in Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University. Congratulations and success on your new title, Dr. Tri Aji! Continue to work in the development of science and make real contributions to the welfare of society, maintaining the good name of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and your beloved alma mater, Diponegoro University.
