The closed final exam as the end of a student’s journey to obtain a doctoral degree at Diponegoro University. The stages in obtaining a Doctoral degree are not easy, through various seminars, research, and the process of writing scientific articles that are so full of struggle. On June 4, 2025, the Doctoral Study Program in Aquatic Resources Management again gave birth to its 196th new doctor in the name of Dr. Ratna Diyah Palupi.

The closed final exam took place offline in Building J, room 307 at 13.00-16.00 WIB. In her dissertation presentation entitled “Antipathogenic Potential of Coral-Associated Bacteria as a Control Agent for White Syndrome Disease in Scleractinia Coral” Promovenda provided a review of environmental factors such as increased nutrients and temperature as the main stressors that trigger disease infections. The percentage of live coral cover also influences horizontal disease transmission, especially in the Wangi-Wangi Waters, Wakatobi Regency. Based on 16 isolates of healthy coral-associated bacteria that were successfully cultured from Sawopudo Waters, Southeast Sulawesi. Of these, six isolates showed potential as antipathogens against White Syndrome disease. Genetic similarity analysis showed that these isolates were close to Bacillus tequilensis (99.79% and 99.93%), Micrococcus luteus (99.43%), Cytobacillus firmus (99.93%), Staphylococcus arlettae (99.79%), and Priestia aryabhattai (99.86%). one type of bacteria that has the potential as a control agent for White Syndrome disease, namely isolates that have a genetic similarity of 99.93% with Cytobacillus firmus.

Promovenda has completed his undergraduate degree at Diponegoro University, Marine Science Study Program and graduated in 2002. Two years after that (2004) the author continued his Masters education at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) Coastal and Marine Resources Management Study Program, graduating in 2006.
